downtown, this Florida haven makes for a wonderful choice for any

One of Delray Beach'§ôs draws is its recently redeveloped downtown
business district, which centers on retail, dining, art, culture
and business. Visitors can spend a lazy afternoon strolling along
Atlantic Avenue, browsing the shops, galleries, boutiques and other
outfits. The area also offers free trolley service, live music and
places to eat.
A jewel of Delray Beach's revitalization is Old School Square Cultural
Arts Center. Once the Delray Elementary School and Delray High School,
it has is now a multi-million dollar centerpiece of the
historic downtown shopping district. A museum and theater,
as well as an outdoor entertainment pavilion are a part of the complex.
A push behind Delray Beach's real estate revitalization
effort may have been the business brought to the area by the Delray
Beach Tennis Center, which has hosted several major international
tennis events. Other Delray Beach attractions are the American Orchid
Society Visitor Center and Botanical Garden and the Morikami Museum
and Japanese Gardens.
Delray Beach traces its start to William S. Linton, a postmaster
of Saginaw, Michigan, who in 1894 traveled to survey the area which
was billed as an excellent investment because of plans to build
a railroad to Miami. Originally known as Linton, the town was incorporated
as Delray Beach in 1927.
As the 20th century progressed, Delray Beach morphed from a largely
farming community to a winter refuge, becoming known for its unique
architecture and thriving downtown.
Delray Beach, from its public beaches and vibrant downtown nightlife,
to its thriving economy and abundance of cultural activities, offers
unmatched home ownership opportunities for residents to love where
they live.
